Heehyun Jeong, born in South Korea in 1984, studied fine arts at Seoul National University and as a master student under Olav Christopher Jenssen in Braunschweig. In her new series Twilight, she focuses on the fragile moment of transition between light and darkness. In her exploration of this phenomenology of transition, she opens up spaces in which stable contours dissolve and give way to an aesthetic of liminality. Through the processual construction of organic layers, she creates a visual density that immediately draws the viewer into a rhythm of becoming and passing away that is unconsciously familiar to them. For Jeong, her work is only complete once a balance is achieved: a consensus between her own will and the ‘will’ of the image. Front image: Twilight, 2026, oil on canvas, 220 x 200 cm
