ANNA & ANNA

A confrontation between two very different artistic positions.

Anna Lena Straube: Studied Fine Arts at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts Kiel / Basic Class Professor Elisabeth Wagner / Class for Painting Professor Peter Nagel Her painting leads right into the heart of the web of pictorial worlds. What she draws out of it are scenes of youth and femininity that seem like archetypes of hope. But instead of indulging in a beautiful glow, the artist transports her figures into grisaille and gloom, exposing them to inhospitable, torn terrain. This painting ignites tensions that sow doubt. Fear undermines hope, nightmare explodes dream. And the viewer’s gaze, driven by tense beauty, is part of the process in which images and life, and vice versa, life and images inspire each other. Dorothee Bauerle-Willert

Anna Schellberg: After studying American and German studies in Hanover and then painting, literature and journalism in San Angelo, Texas, Anna Schellberg began her career as an editor at various German daily newspapers and magazines.
Energy, vivacity and pure joie de vivre are also reflected in her works. Oil paintings that make her motif very present in a large and imposing way. Faces in all shapes and sizes are her theme, as if she wanted to befriend every single person and pass on her life-affirming atmosphere to them. The focus is on the eyes, which have an almost urgent effect on us as viewers.
